How to Buy a Quarter or Half Beef | Easy Process at Carwood Farm PA
It's Easier Than You Think — Here's How It Works
Buying a quarter or half of farm-raised beef from Carwood Farm is a straightforward process. Here's the simple 3-step overview:
- Choose your size — A quarter yields ~130 lbs. of take-home beef; a half yields ~260 lbs. Both are "split" so you get a great variety of cuts.
- Place your order online — Select your processing preference (Standard, Select, Custom, or Burger) at checkout. Corey will follow up by text to confirm your order and scheduled ship month.
- Pick up at the processor — About 3–4 weeks after your animal ships from the farm, your beef is ready. Pay the processor, load up your cooler, and stock your freezer.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much freezer space do I need?
Plan for about 4–5 cubic feet for a quarter (roughly 35 lbs. per cubic foot). A standard chest freezer (7 cu. ft.) handles a quarter comfortably; a half needs 8–10 cu. ft.
How long does the beef last in the freezer?
Properly vacuum-sealed beef will last 24+ months in the freezer with no loss of quality.
What cuts will I get?
All quarters and halves at Carwood Farm are "split," meaning you get an equal share of cuts from the front and back of the animal — ground beef, steaks, roasts, and more.
Is this affordable?
At approximately $9.10/lb. all-in (beef + processing), you're getting premium, hormone-free, antibiotic-free beef at a price that competes with — or beats — grocery store prices for comparable quality.
Do I have to talk to the processor myself?
Not if you don't want to. Choose our "Standard" or "Select" processing recommendation at checkout and we handle the instructions for you. The "Custom" option is there if you want to specify your own cuts.
Can I get a sample before committing to a quarter or half?
Yes, our Beef & Burger Bundles make great samples to try. Since we often function on a 4-6 month wait for quarters and halves, you can subscribe and keep getting bundles every month until you get your quarter or half and then cancel your Monthly Bundle Subscription.
Cost is simple because we charge a flat fee instead of per lbs...these are 2026 prices
1/4 beef = $997 paid to Carwood Farm, LLC
1/2 beef = $1,994 paid to Carwood Farm, LLC
whole beef = $3988 paid to Carwood Farm, LLC
Processing is a separate charge paid to our processor. We use several area federally inspected processors who charge $1.00/lbs. - $1.10/lbs. calculated using the hanging weight. So using the average weights listed above. You can figure your processing costs to be:
1/4 processing = $187 *estimate
1/2 processing = $374 *estimate
whole beef processing = $748 *estimate
So, I know, that's a lot of numbers and can easily get confusing but when you do the math, the approximate price per lbs. is $9.10/ lbs. (that's the total of beef + processing) I give you this number because I know you may be accustomed to looking at price/lbs. at the grocery store or where ever you may have purchased beef from in the past.
